Answers to some common questions about solution-focused hypnotherapy and booking a consultation
Solution-focused hypnotherapy is a positive, forward-looking approach that combines practical conversation with relaxation and hypnosis techniques.
Rather than spending time revisiting the past, we focus on where you would like to be and the small, realistic steps that can help you move towards that. Sessions are designed to help calm the mind, reduce stress, and support you in making changes with greater confidence.
It's a collaborative process, always tailored to you and what you'd like to be different. This means you will be actively involved in therapeutic conversation, identifying goals, recognising progress and considering small steps towards change; the trance supports this work rather than replacing it.
Solution focused hypnotherapy is a form of talking therapy supported by trance. Each regular session has two important parts.
We begin with a structured, solution-focused therapeutic conversation. We will explore what has been going well, identify progress, and discuss the small steps that could help you move towards your goals.
The session then finishes with guided trance. This is a calm, focused state that supports relaxation and helps reinforce the positive ideas discussed during the session.
Hypnosis or trance is not offered as a stand-alone treatment within these sessions. The therapeutic conversation and trance work together as part of a complete approach.
Hypnotherapy can support people with a wide range of challenges, including anxiety, stress, low confidence, poor sleep, fears, phobias, and unwanted habits.
Everyone is different, so the initial consultation gives us time to talk about what you would like support with and whether solution-focused hypnotherapy feels like the right approach for you.
It's not a passive approach or about promising quick fixes. It is about helping you feel calmer, more in control, and better able to move towards the changes you would like to make.
The initial consultation lasts around an hour. It gives us a time to talk through what you'd like support with, gather relevant background information, and decide whether solution-focused hypnotherapy feels like the right approach for you.
I'll also explain how stress and anxiety can affect the brain, mood, sleep and patterns of behaviour, so you understand how the work we do together can help.
The initial consultation also allows us to discuss what the full sessions involve, clarify your expectations of hypnosis and decide together whether this collaborative approach is the right fit.
Afterwards, I'll send you a relaxation audio to support sleep and general relaxation between sessions, and to help you become familiar with my voice.
*Unless offered beforehand, there is no hypnosis during our initial meeting.
No. We can discuss any concerns in your initial consultation. There are some things to consider if you're having online sessions, like making sure you are somewhere quiet and undisturbed and where you can either sit or lay down so your head is supported during the trance. But we can discuss these when we meet.
Yes.
Throughout hypnosis, you remain aware and in control. Trance is a natural state of focused attention and relaxation - similar to becoming completely absorbed in a TV programme or daydreaming while driving a familiar route. You won't be unconscious, or be made to do anything against your will. You'll hear everything I say and can choose to end the session at any time.
Most people describe hypnosis, or trance, as feeling deeply relaxed while remaining fully aware of what's happening around them.
For general low mood, stress and anxiety, we recommend 8-12 sessions; however, sometimes more. Certain conditions, like some phobias and smoking/vaping cessation, are treated differently and are usually resolved in a shorter period of time.
I offer both online and in-person sessions in Ramsgate. There is no difference to the effectiveness of the treatment and some people prefer the ease and convenience of receiving sessions online.
Whilst I am training, an Initial Consultation session with added trance is £30 per session for up to 70 minutes.
Regular hypnotherapy sessions are available at a reduced trainee rate of £45 per session.
After 12 December 2026, session rates will be £60 for an initial consultation and £90 for a regular session for up to 70 minutes.
